WIP - Rachael's baby quilt top finished

Today I finished Rachael's baby quilt top.  My daughter found some cute cupcake fabric that she wants to use for the back. Hopefully it will still be there when we go to back to the fabric store this weekend. Anyway here are the pictures of the top and a close up of one of the corners.

WIP-Rachael's Baby Quilt

My daughter's friend Rachael is going to be having a baby girl. My daughter wanted to give her a handmade baby quilt. She asked Rachael what colors she wanted and this is what she said. "I like purple, pink, zebra and cheetah prints". Here are our fabrics, we got lucky and found the pink in a cheetah print.

My daughter is just learning to sew and has a very busy schedule between work and school. I decided to design an easy 3 fabric rail quilt. That way if she didn't have time to work on it, I could whip it out in a day. Here is the design I came up with.

I have cut the strips and sewed one together.

I have also cut the strip into five 8½" blocks.

I will be sewing all the strips and my daughter will be assembling the quilt. She still needs to pick out a backing but she will do that when the top is done.

Block 7 - Pinwheel

I managed to squeeze in another block. I need to schedule these blocks in on my calendar so I don't forget to do them while I am working on other projects. Here are the Pinwheel blocks.

These only took about 15 minutes per block from cut to finished. Super easy.

Scarf Decoupage Pumpkins

I took a little break from sewing to make some decoupage pumpkins.

I was looking through Pinterest for Fall decorating ideas when I came across these cute SILK SCARF PUMPKINS. I decided to give it a try and make some for myself.

I had some pumpkins here and bought 2 more at the Dollar Tree. I bought 2 cheap scarves. One from a thrift store which was silk and another from the Dollar Tree which was polyester. I also found 2 nice picks at Michael's to use on the tops.

The trick is to make sure you cut your scarf pieces small enough. The first one that I did the pieces were a little big. I had a hard time making it smooth. I also found that the polyester fabric was trickier to apply. The silk went on nicely. I used orange pumpkins because the were cheap but if you want the scarf colors to show up better I would suggest using the more expensive white pumpkins.

I think that they came out very nice.

Product Review - Wing Clipper ruler

I recently purchased Deb Tucker's WING CLIPPER RULER from my local quilt shop. I had a lot of flying geese blocks to trim and I didn't want to mess them up. This ruler is awesome.

The ruler has markings to trim 10 different sizes.
It also comes with directions on how to make the no waste
flying geese in 10 sizes.

Here are my flying geese being trimmed.

Easy peasy. If you can't find the ruler at your local quilt shop, you can order HERE.

Halloween Spiderweb

I know that I said my next quilt would be Staircase to the Stars, but I have not found the right fabric colors for it. Until then I have chosen a cute Halloween quilt from Quilter's World Magazine's "QUILTING FOR AUTUMN" 2015 issue. The quilts name is "Halloween Spiderweb" designed by Julia Dunn. It is made from a simple block pattern but has a dramatic effect. So I pulled all my Halloween fabric, bought a nice neutral for the cream that it calls for. This quilt should go together quickly and be ready for October.

This is a picture of what the quilt will look like when finished.
I hope mine turns out this nice.

Here are some of the fabrics that I will be using.
I have 7 more that aren't in the picture.

Here is a completed block. It was quick to do.

4-Patch 9-Patch - Finished

I finished binding the quilt yesterday. Glad it's done, now I can move onto another project or 2 or 3. I had a hard time taking pictures of it. I live in a small apartment with little natural light. Here they are.

This picture shows the back and front of the quilt.

Here is the front of quilt.
It is nice to see all the past quilts that I have made.

This photo shows the backing fabric also being used as the binding.
