Easy Clean Your Sticky Bake-ware

Today's Tip Holiday candy making and baking can create a sticky mess on your bakeware. To loosen food stuck on an enamel pot, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 cups of water, bring it to a boil and let it boil for 10 minutes. Once the water cools down, scrape off the food and wash the pot. For an enamel baking dish, add the baking soda mixture to the sticky bakeware and microwave for 2 minutes. (Or, if the pan is too big for your microwave, sprinkle the pan with the baking soda and add boiling water.) Let the pan sit for a couple hours and the burnt-on food should come off easy as pie. Holiday candy making and baking can create a sticky mess on your bakeware. Baked Cranberry Sauce

If you've never made your own homemade cranberry sauce, you are really missing out. Besides being easy to make, with each spoonful, you’ll experience a burst of flavor that is second to none.

Yields: 3 / cups
Cooking Time: 50 min

What You'll Need:

4 cups fresh cranberries, rinsed and drained (see
Note)
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons water

What To Do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Combine all ingredients in a 1-1/2-quart casserole dish.
3. Cover and bake 50 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries pop. Let cool
slightly then cover and chill until ready to serve.

Notes:

One 12-ounce bag of cranberries measures about 3 cups.

Safeway and Coupons

No internet coupons!

I was shopping in my local Safeway store the other day. I had printed out coupons on products that I always use ( I was happy that I remembered to do that and take them with me). When I got to check out I was informed that Safeway no longer take coupons printed from the internet. I guess this is a new policy. So much for wasting all that ink. The only internet coupons they might take are the ones directly printed from a product site.as long as the scanner can read it. I guess it is time to go back to getting the weekly paper.

Spring Cleaning

It has finally rained here on the Central Coast in California. Along with the rain was also the wind. So I have started my Spring cleaning. It is yucky and cold outside. I still have boxes to sort through from when we moved in over a year ago. I was able to talk my husband into getting a tool bag for the bike tools. The bag now sits next to the bikes which have been put up on a rack against the wall. No more tripping over them. Space and storage problems are hard to fix when you live in a small apartment. Both kids had to move back in. I don't mind that they are here, but my spare room is gone and part of my living room. I plan on getting a hide-a-bed so my son doesn't have to sleep on the floor. We tried an air mattress, (actually 2, both got holes in them), but it took up too much room. Thankfully my son is only here a few days a week. I guess that makes him a part-time live in. Anyway got a little off track.

Today and the rest of the week will be dedicated to Spring cleaning. Has anyone else started their Spring cleaning?

First Run

My daughter and I have made a deal. She needs to run to pass her PT tests for the Military and I need to get back to exercising. We are going to walk/run together to keep each other motivated. She will also be taking a core exercising class this semester. I will be working on my strength training at home.

Last night was the first run with my daughter. My daughter runs 2 miles. I walked/jogged while she ran. We figured out that I ran for a total of 1/2 mile. I did it in intervals. I think I will be able to run the full 2 miles in a few months. When I can run with my daughter then we will increase the distant. Next run is Wednesday. I will be running every other day.

I think working together and supporting each other we will meet our goals and be healthier and fitter this next year.
